Funny that you should ask... ;-) First of all I would like to introduce Charles
Chan. He's a co-worker that just acquired a Silver 86'SS with a maroon interior.
I'll let him come out from lurking and he can give you all more details about
his uniquely optioned SS.
I had to mention Charlie's name because we were on the way to pick up his Mach
1 that he had left behind when he picked up his new SS, when the Grim Reaper was
challenged.
We had let traffic die down a little before we set off to go and retrieve his
Mustang, so we were cruising along on the freeway at the posted speed limit. We
were in the middle lane of the freeway, when out of nowhere, I see headlights
appoaching rapidly. He's weaving in and out of the lanes, and whips up next to
the Grim Reaper. It was a late 80's/early 90's 5.slow with a Saleen type rear
spoiler. His ride was lowered, had the chrome rims, and some goofie looking 4"
Mongo chrome tips hanging off of the tailpipes. Just ahead of the Mustang was
a 4th gen f-body, but he pulled over to the slow lane. I don't think that he wanted
any action, because judging by his tailpipe, he was only packing a 6-banger.
The 5.slow and I are still cruising at around 65mph, when I tell Charlie to hang
on. I smile at the passenger of the 5.slow, and mash the pedal to the metal. The
Reaper kinks down into drive and then into 2nd. The secondaries open up, and the
flowmasters start singing. In a blink of an eye, we were 3 car lengths ahead of
him and pulling away hard. We passed a couple of cars, and the 5.slow was unsuccessfully
trying to keep up. He was weaving in and out of the sparce traffic, but his headlights
kept getting smaller and smaller...
I had my 120mph speedo pegged when I let off of the go pedal. They eventually
caught up just as were getting ready to take the interchange to the next freeway.
I smiled to the passanger again, and he's laughing and giving me the thumbs up...
;-) He must've been giving the driver of the Mustang hell... ;-)
I really don't do alot of street racing, but sometimes I just can't help myself...
;-) I just love knowing that I have the ponies to back up the sinister looks of
the Grim Reaper. Aaaahhhh whata russshhhh!
At the track (Sears Point), I had gone head to head with a new Mustang Cobra with
a supercharger. At first I was kinda intimidated by it, but that changed when
we went thru the traps and he was a car length behind me... ;-)
Charles witnessed both challenges first hand. Hey Charles, come out and introduce
yourself!... ;-)
George..
