Grim Reaper 1/8th mile adventure (11.97)

Well the weather held up enough for the Sears Point Raceway to hold the season finale'. Sears Point typically runs 1/4 mile drags on Wednesday evenings, but the last night of the season was 1/8th mile drags. Last week a vehicle hit some irregularities at the end of the 1/4 mile, and his car bottomed out, pitched side ways, and rolled over three time. Unfortunately the driver didn't survive the accident. Because of this, the track officials decidedto run 1/8th mile drags for the season finale' (for safety reasons).

This was my first time to experience the 1/8th mile. Let me tell ya, it was really weird, just not long enough... ;-) The lanes, where you wait for your class to be called, was covered with water puddles, and this caused everyone to have major traction problems. I tried my best to keep the rear tires dry, but I was still limited on traction. I was able to get decent traction off the line, but my on my first few runs, I would spin the tires through 2nd gear, and even chirp the tires going into 3rd. I would hit 3rd gear just before crossing the 1/8th mile mark. I really need to get a setof DOT slicks!!

My reaction times weren't as good as my first outing, but still fairly decent I guess... ;-) My best time was against a 97'Z28 with 4.10 rear gears, 58mm throttle body, cold air induction, chip, and BFG drag radials.

Reaction: .612
60 ft: 2.053
ET: 8.834
MPH: 80.028

What all these numbers mean is a mystery to me!?! Can someone please decipher the ET for me? What would this equate to in 1/4 mile times?

I spent most of the evening, spinning the tires through 2nd gear, and I was averaging low 9's. I let Luis Bettencourt (list member), and also a co-worker, ride shot gun on a majority of the runs, and also in the brackets. Since I wasn't getting any traction, I felt that I might as well let these guys experience the 1/8th mile with
me.. ;-) Strangely enough, my quickest time was with my co-worker, whom weighs 190ish. I should a' had him sit in the back seat for added traction.. ;-)

I did manage to get a trophy for being a semi-finalist... ;-) The guy that beat me was a total veteran! His dial in was 10.36, and he ran a 10.364 <<<< Ya can't get any closer than that!!! His reaction time was .553 also. Needless to say, this dude took the 1st place trophy home.. ;-)

I'm sure that Luis and Charles will post their comments on the evening also. Neither of them brought there SS's to the track. Charles brought his Austin Mini Cooper to see what it would do, and Luis had never been to the track before, so he decided to check things out first.. ;-)
